Bible Verses About Fear

What is Fear?

Every human being on earth feels the emotion of fear. It is a reaction to perceived danger, threat, or anything that we believe poses a negative effect on our lives.

We fear death, we fear the loss of a job, we fear the end of a marriage, and we also fear small things, such as speaking in front of a crowd, going to the dentist, and we also feel fear when we watch a scary movie.

When fear grapples us, does that mean that we don’t have faith in God? When we fear our future, does that mean we don’t believe in His words?

Fear and Christians go hand in hand. God did not promise us that our lives will be perfect. In fact, He guarantees that our lives will be far from perfect. We feel fear because things that we don’t understand or things that we know nothing about can potentially hurt us. It’s completely normal to feel fear. And thus, it is completely fine if you fear to fail in an exam, if you fear the loss of your home or you fear an illness.

The most important thing is not to be consumed by this fear, by seeking God for peace.

The Bible and Fear

There are so many passages in the Bible that talk about fear. If you find yourself being afraid of something, open the Bible and you will find the peace and comfort you need.

Psalm 46: 1-3 says, “God is our refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains are moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”

This Scripture tells us that the earth may give us disasters, accidents, and painful experiences, God is here to give us strength and we can come to Him to seek refuge. It is inevitable as human beings to go through many difficult circumstances, but we must feel comfortable in the fact that we can seek the Lord for peace and strength to overcome our troubles.

Knowing that God is there with you at any time and with whatever troubles you may have, gives us a sense of peace and confidence that He will lift us up no matter what happens.

Fear and Prayer

When fear arrives at our doors, we must not let it overcome us and wallow in the tremendous emotions that it brings. Yes, fear is a powerful emotion and it can either lead us to great things or to wrongdoing. As a Christian, when you suddenly feel your heart is beating faster, your palms are sweating, and your mind is whirling, it is time to seek God.

You do not have to face your fears alone. You do not have to suffer from the emotion and its consequences. God promises us that He will give us comfort and that He plans a beautiful future for us, so have no fear.

In times of trouble and fear, you must start to pray. Paul gives us a comforting command in Philippians 4:6-7, wherein it says: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

When you start to fear, give it all to God. Acknowledge that God is the only one that can remove your fears and replace it with comfort.

Peace and Love

In Philippians 4:7, it says that when we make our fears and requests known to Him, we receive the “peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension.”

In this material world, humans have gotten used to seeking peace elsewhere. We seek peace in job security, we seek peace in a relationship, we seek peace in control, in money, in fame, and even in the opinions of others. What we forget is that these things will soon vanish from your life. When you die, you cannot bring your money with you, you cannot bring your fame with you, and you will no longer have control. What is left with you is your soul and spirit.

All these material things will eventually betray you. People can leave and die, fame can disappear, other people may have negative things to say about you, and money can be gone in an instant. These are fleeting, fallible, and finite. However, God’s love is always present. God’s love is never gone, and it is always with you because it is within you. The Holy Spirit is in each and every Christian on earth, and therefore, when we feel fear, we can reach within ourselves to find calmness and tranquillity.

For every fear you have, tell God about it. For every negative emotion, fear of the future, fear of what’s to come, and fear of what you know has arrived, talk to God. Pray to Him and give Him all your doubts and worries, leave it all to God, and have faith.

In Psalm 27:1, it says, “The Lord is my light, and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Give God your troubles and have faith that He will heal you, lift you up, and give you comfort.

What To Do

When you are faced with fear, pray to God the moment you wake up. Pray to Him all your worries for the day, and you can begin your morning with peace, hope, and faith.

In 2 Thessalonians 3:16, it says: “Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all.”

With prayer, you will be able to grow your faith. As Christians, you are already given the gift of faith. This faith is what gives us hope and accord that things will be just fine because God is fighting your battles for you. It may seem like God is nowhere to be found when you are faced with problems in life, but He is there, quietly fighting for your future. Situations may seem hopeless now, but behind you back, God has waged a battle for His son or daughter. In time, you will discover that God has always been by your side, making sure that the best things for you will be delivered at the perfect time.

In John 14: 27, it says, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Fear is a powerful emotion but God is here by our side, giving us strength, fighting for us, and giving us faith, hope, and peace.
